You had to be there to believe it!

The History of the BOO:B.O.O. = Base Of Operations, that's what Bernie and I called the Archer Property. When we had the first Halloween party, it was an opportunity for all of our friends, near and far, to gather, see each other again, and party. The first BOO parties were very simple: Acoustic music, chicken and oysters, and spool races. The haunted house was my specialty. Of course there was always the odd worm eater, but we never served worms on the menu. And of course there was the survivors breakfast, with cheap champagne. My dad cooked the chicken, made the oyster openers out of 12-penny nails, and we bought the first 3 kegs of beer and took up donations for the rest. My, my how things have evolved!!- D.D. Stein Everyone really kicked in for this one big-time. Folks were very enthusiastic about this year's party, probably due to the fact that last years party was such a big hit. The location at Jennifer's is perfect for this size party with nice woods and lots of good spots for campsites. Everything came together extremely well considering that a lot had to be done at the very last moment. A lot of planning took place well in advance of the party, but because of the fact that many of us are from out of town, not much could be done until we arrived. Earlier in the year Jennifer and the folks in Archer made enormous headway by clearing the land and getting the felled trees sawn into firewood. This gave us an unlimited supply of oak to use for both cooking and the many campfires that were to follow.I flew into Gainesville on Monday; I met up with "Laser" Greg on Tuesday. Then began the mad scramble to get stuff purchased, rented, assembled and up and running. We started the stage and kitchen construction at the site on Tuesday. This kept Rob Cotton and the crew busy—assembling the scaffolding, the canopies, building the stage, and rigging the projection screen. Much to our surprise, we had campers start arriving early on Wednesday! We had to fire up the kitchen and the BBQ pit so we could start feeding folks that night. Bill Hare contributed pork ribs and beef tenderloin; I threw in a leg of lamb that I picked up at Albertson's, and everyone started piling up cases of beer near the coolers in the kitchen area. The party was officially under way.- Clark McFadden Next:The Lights, the Sounds, the Lasers, the Bands, Balloons, Bubbles, Tee-shirts and the Haunted House… Post Boo 2K
