Ancient Stuff: Reality Kitchen "More Fun Than We Needed to Have"
The Story of This Series of Photos and the PhotographerWhen David Lins and I were in High School (he was my first date) we used to walk by this building and talk about what a GREAT location it would be for a nightclub, and we dreamed of opening one there - it was a furniture store at the time. When he saw that I was actually DOING what we had dreamed about all those years before, he was very happy about the whole thing, so I think that he would be gratified now to know that HIS roll of film is the only surviving photo record of opening night at the Reality Kitchen NIGHTCLUB. There were other opening nights of other "Reality Kitchen" incarnations, but this one was the only real full-blown NIGHTCLUB with a 4-COP liquor license and real bookings for REAL national and even internationally recognized artists. Nick Lowe (and his Cowboy Outfit) opened his American tour at our venue, for instance...
Rick had the pictures for a long time and recently gave them back to me. A long time ago I gave him the envelope that had the pictures in it because I had asked him to scan them and email them to me to keep them safe when it looked like I might lose them forever. Rick kept them safe for about 10 years and just gave them back to me last year. I was SO HAPPY to see them again!-Jill
